My Bimmer dipped a toe in Lake Michigan yesterday, what did the rest of OPPO do this weekend?

The rain took a break so I could snap this pic!

Put about 1000 miles on my car this weekend driving up to Leelenau to see some fall colors. It’s hard to overstate how high the water levels still are around the great lakes. On some of the shoreline areas you can see dead trees that are 20-30' out into the lake that were probably living healthy lives on the shore last year. The water at this boat ramp is usually a good 10' out, but now the lake is practically in the parking lot.

I did get some great miles in on the bike this weekend before the rain hit. What have you been up to, Oppo?

Kinja'd!!!

Got some new ultra-wide handlebars on the steed, much better for off-road wanderings!

Cool Pics!
Went out for a fancy dinner Friday night
Did round 3 of apple picking/pumpkin picking/eating donuts
Scooted around in the 02
Did a fire and smores in the back yard last night
Getting ready for an MTB trip this weekend.

Ever plan to do something fun then worry that it will suck as you approach the date? I do that every time !

Looks like a great weekend, I’m jealous.

My weekend was spent cleaning, fixing and packing the house. I'm exhausted but not done.

Took this pic a year ago in Leeland, w ent a whole year without lake levels dropping (at least from what I’ve heard). H opefully its a mild winter so the water can start to get back to normal.

Did a staycation at the S hinola hotel this weekend. W as very nice and the first time I've gotten my car valeted since one of them could drive manual.

That looks like a great weekend! Mileage on either of those vehicles is a great use of time.

I studied (a lot)

Filmed some footage for a car review I’ll publish this week

Studied some more

Ate a hefty amount of pizza

Discovered my MR2's gearbox can be rebuilt with a limited-slip differential (and have been quite stoked since then!)

Started the weekday grind pretty happy!

My last full-time semester in my university has been fun so far but I’m always itching to make more car content. I haven’t road tripped in months.

Is there a bigger auto motive cliche than cars pulling down to the water so their tires barely touch it, so they can get a photo with the reflection?

I went to the curviest road in Indiana only to discover I couldn’t actually access it (more on that another time) but I did discover this gem on a back road:

haha. I recently switched from clipless to platforms on my roadie, I’m actually liking the extra freedom of foot placement and my knees seem happier as well.

Pizza + road trips are both great ideas. Also gearbox rebuilds maybe? That one’s waaaay over my head ;)

You c ertainly got more miles in than me.

Wife put regular gas instead of premium in the Veloster this week. So we went to a corn maze about 80 miles away to burn off the last of the tank the night before an autocross.

Had a ton of fun racing the veloster. Its definitely far more capable than anything I'm used to. Got to do my first FWD drift in it too. Feels good to be in a class with a good number of people too.

Also went to the best air show I’ve ever seen. A-10, F-22, F-35, and thunderbirds.

Awesome! My wife and I spent a night there because she got an amazing deal they were offering for health care workers during the pandemic. We got a one-night stay, a bottle of wine and breakfast for $99 or something like that. It was a crazy deal and a very nice hotel.

Yup. Every time haha. I’ve been planning an overnight bikepacking trip for a month now and it’s approaching fast but the forecast sucks. Ugh.

Went on a little drive Saturday and then had the rest of the day To kill so I went on a large bike ride. My house to the top of the mountain, across, down and back home. My rough guess is 28 miles and a few thousand vertical. Sunday was filled with many “recovery” beers and chicken wings

Man, I miss the colors of fall. The desert is one unending shade of brown until December comes around and coats the mountains in the distance with snow.

As for me, I installed a new wiring harness and polished my engine bay a little more while putting off the timing belt & water pump installation.  Ordered replacement silicone hoses from Sweden.

Attempted to code my friend’s new money pit to metric units. Turns out it was so water-logged from sitting two years with the sunroof drain clogged that standard tools wouldn’t interface. Clapped M-cars are fun.
